The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) is currently hiring for a Senior Database Analyst. This position is part of the IT Infrastructure and Operations Department. The Senior Database Analyst will work closely with the application development teams and various leaders to understand database and data management requirements.


CRITERIA FOR AN INTERVIEW:
 University degree in Information Technology, i.e., Computer Science, Computer Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience
 Minimum of two (2) years experience managing Database Systems architecture, design, data
modeling, development and implementations in an enterprise environment
 Professional certification as Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solution Expert is an asset
 Expert knowledge of most recent version of SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, Active Directory, Windows Server 2016/2019, PowerShell and scripting
 Strong skills with high availability, business continuity and disaster recovery including Always On Availability Groups, mirroring, clustering and log shipping
 Excellent knowledge and experience with data analytics tools, data integration services, cloud systems, IT methodologies, data management best practices and IT security concepts
 Knowledge and experience with System Center 2016 (SQL Management Pack), VMware and
Dell EMC Networker SQL Backup an asset
 Excellent analytical, critical thinking, decision making, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
 Demonstrated leadership ability in researching, planning, designing, implementing, administrating and supporting enterprise applications
 Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
 Well-developed ability to manage staff and assign projects and tasks
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
 Availability to work outside core office hours, as required

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Senior Manager – Data Centre/ Computing System Infrastructure and Services, the primary function of this position is responsibility for the effective planning, managing, building, maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting the database infrastructure. Major duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
 Manage, maintain and provide operational support of the existing database infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, security and operational efficiency
 Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, monitoring, database optimization, change control management, backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning and manage security access control
 Carry out installation, configuration, deployment and upgrade of MS SQL Server based on internal and industry best practices.
 Perform as Technical Lead to take ownership of database projects involving multiple technologies and collaborate with various business units
 Provide Tier 3 technical support, troubleshooting, problem analysis and resolution and escalation to third party as required
 Assist the application systems and development teams with designing, data modeling, developing entity relationship diagrams and optimizing database queries.
 Develop and maintain documentation on systems management and operational policies, processes and procedures; follow operational policies and processes that are compliant with ITIL standards and change control best practices, and automate database processes
 Proactively analyze existing database infrastructure and data management processes to identify where integrity, performance, reliability and availability can be improved
 Provide technical level analysis and review of new information technology projects to determine if project deliverables are meeting strategic objectives of the business
 Provide technical inputs including and recommendations for business cases, reports and RFPs/RFQs
 Prepare and update infrastructure design documents, technical end-user documentation, system technical and functional specifications, standards; provide in-services, conduct presentations, develop project plans and schedules for project implementation
 Oversee and supervise the work duties of assigned staff
 Collaborate with technology peers, application developers, technical mentoring, share technical knowledge and guidance with other staff and manage work performed
 Perform other duties as assigned or required


PLEASE NOTE:
This position will require the incumbent to be available for “on call” work and must be flexible to work after hours including evenings and weekends. A valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for travel to Board and non-Board sites (eligibility for mileage reimbursement).
